Deep Purple will give a concert on July 16th, 2023 at the Papp László Budapest Sportarena, the organizer Live Nation told MTI on Wednesday. The records of the band, which has been active for more than half a century and has produced twenty-two studio albums, have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. Their song Smoke on the Water is one of the biggest rock hits of all time.

Deep Purple was formed in 1968, during its long history there were many changes in its membership. From the later legendary line-up, keyboardist Jon Lord and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who died in 2012, were founding members, then they were joined by drummer Ian Paice and singer Rod Evans, who was soon replaced by Ian Gillan, with Roger Glover on bass. In the following decades, singer David Coverdale, Tommy Bolin and guitarist Joe Satriani turned up in Deep Purple. Among the original members, Paice, Glover and Gillan still play in Deep Purple to this day, with keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride currently playing in the band, the latter came this year to replace Steve Morse, who left due to his wife’s illness. The band’s latest album, Turning to Crime, was released last year. Deep Purple has already performed many concerts in Hungary, most recently in December 2019.
