Pope Francis arrives today for a three-day apostolic visit to Hungary. The plane of the head of the Catholic Church is expected to land at Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport at ten o’clock in the morning.
Pope Francis is received by the President of the Republic Katalin Novák in the square in front of the Sándor Palace. After the solemn ceremony, the head of the church pays a courtesy visit to the head of state in the Sándor Palace, and then meets Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. After that, a meeting will be held in the Carmelite monastery with the participation of state authorities, representatives of social life and the diplomatic corps. Pope Francis and President Katalin Novák will speak at the event.
In the afternoon, the Pope will meet representatives of the Hungarian Catholic Church, bishops, priests, deacons, monks, student priests and pastoral staff in the St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest. At the event, András Veres, president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference, greets the head of the Catholic Church, and then testimonies will be given. After the speech of Pope Francis, the expected one-hour meeting will end with a joint prayer and the blessing of the Holy Father.
Pope Francis’ apostolic journey on April 28th-30th, and all public events related to his visit are reported on by almost all public media channels. A total of six live broadcasts – two each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – will be seen and heard on the Duna TV channel and Kossuth radio.
