László Novák, the new director of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Debrecen Clinical Center, has taken over his appointment. He will manage the nationally and internationally recognized institution from May 5. The outgoing professor László Bognár, who turned 65, led the clinic for more than 17 years. During this time, the institution entered the European forefront of neurosurgery.
Professor László Bognár was appointed director of the Neurosurgery Clinic in 2005. Under his leadership, the institution became a national center in several areas. One of the prominent profiles of the clinic is pediatric neurosurgery. The full spectrum of brain and spinal surgery interventions is available not only for adults but also for infant and childhood diseases.
It is an extremely great achievement that we were able to create pediatric neurosurgery. As a major neurosurgery center in the country, our pediatric neurosurgery patient care activities are outstanding both in terms of quality and quantity. We work together with the specialists of the Pediatric Clinic, among whom I would also like to highlight Dr. Andrea Nagy, without whom the launch of this specialty would have been unthinkable
– emphasized Professor László Bognár.
The clinic’s special services include gamma radiation surgery. The institution operates as the only center in this field in the country.
The use of gamma surgery and the creation of the GAMMA Radiosurgery Center was an extremely important step in terms of the development of the clinic. Today, we perform twice as many brain tumor surgeries as before, around 320, and in addition around 300 gamma knife treatments
– the professor explained.
The establishment of scoliosis surgery in cooperation with the Orthopedic and Pediatric Clinics strengthens the character of the institution as a national center. The high-quality and specialized surgical care is supported by numerous technical devices, and the indispensable technical background of modern neurosurgery is also provided.
László Bognár put it this way: the institution succeeded in catching up with the world in the fields of brain, spinal and pediatric surgery. The clinic places great emphasis on young professionals learning from international authorities, for example from Professor Dezső Jeszenszky in the field of spine surgery, and from Professor Róbert Reisch in relation to endoscopic surgeries.
Associate Professor László Novák will succeed László Bognár as clinic director. The new leader has been working together with his predecessor from the beginning, in addition to his own operations, he has assisted Professor Bognár in more than two thousand operations. He is an internationally recognized neurosurgeon who also takes a significant part in European neurosurgery education. The new director was recommended for the position by László Bognár, and the appointment of László Novák was supported by the leaders of the Clinical Center and the University of Debrecen.
As a leader, my main goal is to provide our patients with the highest level of quality care in the future, which requires us to detect and introduce new developments in time, and to acquire the latest instruments and technologies. The supply of professionals is also given for quality work, we work with ambitious young people who want to learn and develop
– László Novák said.
The new director will take over the leadership of the Neurosurgery Clinic on May 5. László Bognár continues to help the institution’s professionals with his decades of professional experience. The appointment of László Novák was handed over by Zoltán Szabó, the president of the Clinical Center, on Tuesday in the Presidential Office.
