In March, the gross average salary in Hungary was HUF 577,900

In March, the gross average salary of full-time employees was HUF 577,900 (approx. 1538,43 EUR), and the net average salary calculated with discounts was HUF 398,000. The gross average earnings were 16.6 percent higher and the net average earnings 16.5 percent higher than a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.

The regular gross average earnings (without premiums, bonuses, and one-month special benefits) can be estimated at HUF 520,600, which is 15.7 percent higher than a year earlier. The regular gross average earnings in enterprises amounted to HUF 528,500, in the budget sector to HUF 492,300, and in the non-profit sector to HUF 522,300, which means an increase of 17.4, 11.9 and 10.0 percent in one year.

Net average earnings without discounts reached HUF 384,300, 16.5 percent more than a year earlier.

Real earnings decreased by 6.9 percent, in addition to the outstanding growth of consumer prices of 25.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The gross median earnings were HUF 440,700, 16.3 percent higher than a year earlier. The median value of net earnings, calculated taking discounts into account, reached HUF 305,900, 15.7 percent higher than the same period of the previous year.

In the first quarter, the gross average salary of those employed full-time – in the entire range of businesses – was HUF 545,700. The average net salary without discounts reached HUF 362,900, including discounts, HUF 376,100.

The gross and average net earnings calculated without discounts both increased by 10.8 percent, and the net earnings calculated with discounts by 10.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The change in the average salary was influenced by the service allowance corresponding to the six-month salary paid to the national defense and law enforcement professional staff in February 2022, the so-called weapon money. Filtering out the effect of this, the increase in the gross average earnings would be 5.3 percentage points higher, and the increase in the net average earnings calculated taking discounts into account would be 5.7 percentage points higher.

The average gross salary of full-time employees at businesses employing at least five people, budget institutions and non-profit organizations that are important for employment was HUF 562,700 in January-March. The net average earnings without discounts reached HUF 374,200, and HUF 387,400 including discounts.

In this round, the gross and net average earnings calculated without discounts both increased by 10.7 percent, and the net earnings calculated with discounts by 10.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The change in average earnings was influenced by the service allowance corresponding to the six-month salary paid to national defense and law enforcement professional staff in February 2022, the so-called gun money. Filtering out the effect of this, the increase in the gross average earnings would be 5.7 percentage points higher, and the increase in the net average earnings calculated taking discounts into account would be 6.1 percentage points higher.
