The Berettyóújfalu District Prosecutor’s Office accuses the woman who vandalized a grave in Röszke three times with more serious vandalism.
According to the indictment, the perpetrator was angry with an old acquaintance due to a previous conflict. The man’s wife had died earlier, and their children erected a grave in his memory, on which their father’s name was written.
The perpetrator, who resented the man, damaged the tombstone three times between July 2018 and October 2022 by spraying the tombstone with a red paint sprayer in several places. The act ended when the family installed a wildlife camera in the cemetery, which recorded the act, and the police identified the perpetrator based on the recordings.
The defendant caused a total of HUF 434,000 in damage to the family, which was not recovered, so during the investigation, they requested compensation for their damage.
The Berettyóújfalu District Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against the woman who confessed to the crime at the Szeged District Court for the crime of vandalism by damaging an object dedicated to the memory of the deceased in a cemetery. In his indictment, he suspended the imposition of a prison sentence and proposed that the district court confiscate the paint sprayer used as a tool and oblige the woman to compensate the victims.
