The Berettyóújfalu District Prosecutor’s Office brought charges of aggravated robbery and theft against a man who committed several crimes in a few days in Konyár, Hajdú-Bihar county.
According to the indictment, on May 17, 2023, in the afternoon, the man drunkenly climbed into the yard of a house in Konyár. The old woman was doing garden work when the perpetrator came up behind her, put her arms around her and covered her mouth so she couldn’t call for help. He then demanded money from the woman, while holding a sharp piece of concrete in one hand, threatening to stab her if she shouted and did not give money. The woman said that she would give money if the man did not hurt her and did not enter the house, and then they both went to the entrance. The woman went into the house to get her wallet, while the perpetrator entered the hall and when the victim went out, the man took out the paper money from the wallet, then the victim handed over the change at his request, and then the perpetrator left the house.
The defendant caused HUF 3,900 damage to the woman, who requested compensation during the Berettyóújfalu police investigation.
The perpetrator also committed several thefts. At dawn on the day of the robbery, he broke into a local press through the warehouse’s barred window and took HUF 62,000 worth of food and spirits.
The man also broke into a house in Konyár that evening. He pushed open the front door and took various tools from the house. Two days later, he went back to the house and since the victim had not yet fixed the broken lock, he entered the house through the open door, where he took toiletries and food. He caused a total of more than HUF 133,000 in damage, of which HUF 94,000 was recovered through confiscation.
The Berettyóújfalu District Prosecutor’s Office accuses the man who is under arrest and has confessed to the crime, with the more serious crime of robbery and two counts of theft. In his indictment, if the legal conditions are met, he made a motion to impose a 7-year prison sentence and a 7-year ban from public affairs, and for the Berettyóújfalu District Court to oblige him to compensate the robbed woman for the damage, and to order the confiscation of assets to the extent of the damage caused by the thefts.
