Israel blames alleged Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket for hospital attack in Gaza. According to The Times of Israel, Israel’s Foreign Ministry has released a video and graphics that “make it clear” that a stray shot by Palestinian Islamic Jihad was responsible for the hit to the Gaza hospital. The newspaper did not verify the authenticity of the video.
“On October 17th at around 7:00 p.m., Palestinian Islamic Jihad fired rockets towards Israel,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that one of the Palestinian rockets had gone astray.
The newspaper also refers to an X-account managed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, in which they claim that analyzes of the operational systems of the Israel Defense Forces reveal that “a hostile missile attack was carried out against Israel” which affected the vicinity of the hospital at the time of the hit. Citing intelligence information, they claim that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is responsible for the hit to the hospital.
The press office of the Hamas government in Gaza called the air strike against a hospital in the Gaza Strip a war crime.
“At least five hundred people were killed in the Israeli attack. The hospital accommodated hundreds of sick and wounded, as well as hundreds of people forcibly displaced from their homes” – reads the announcement, according to which hundreds of victims are still under the ruins.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the Israeli attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip “horrific and completely unacceptable,” reports Reuters. Canada has stressed that Israel must abide by international law in retaliating against Hamas attacks that have killed more than 1,300 people.
At least 500 people have been killed in the airstrike on the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The attack on the hospital was not preceded by any signal. According to the ministry, there may be hundreds more victims under the ruins.
