The first half of February this year was similar to a cooler April: the average temperature of the first two weeks of the month was 8.1 degrees Celsius on the national average – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote on its Facebook page.
They added that in the first half of the month, the average temperature of 8.1 degrees exceeded the average of 1991-2020 by 7.6 degrees and 2016, which was the mildest since the beginning of the 20th century, by almost 3 degrees.
In the first half of the month, the average temperature in the plains was mostly between 7 and 9 degrees, which is normal for late March and early April. Even on the highest mountains, the average for the two weeks was well above freezing, close to 3 degrees, they explained.
They also pointed out that the national average value of 8.1 degrees was 2.3 degrees higher than the March average measured in the years 1991-2020, meaning that the first half of February this year was similar to a cooler April.
They added that in April 2021, an average temperature of 8.5 degrees was registered.
According to the analysis, the average daily temperature on all three days from February 9 to 11 exceeded the previous maximum, which occurred in the first half of February in the last 124 years. On February 10, the national average of the daily average temperature was 12.7 degrees, which is the highest value for the whole of February, and even considering all three winter months, it was the second mildest day since the beginning of the 20th century. The national average daily temperature was higher than this only on December 17, 1989 (12.9 degrees), they wrote.
