1.1 million guests spent nearly 2.8 million guest nights in Hungarian tourist accommodations in March this year, the number of guests was 30, and the number of guest nights was 25 percent more than the previous year, announced the KSH. Domestic guests spent 22 and foreign guests 27 percent more nights than at this time last year.
In January-March, the guest nights spent by domestic guests were 15 percent higher than the same period of the previous year, and the number of nights spent by foreigners increased by 21 percent. According to the KSH report, 72 percent of the guest nights were provided by commercial accommodations, where the turnover was 19 percent higher than the previous year. 43 percent more guest nights were registered at private and other accommodations than a year earlier.
The number of guests was 586,000, and the number of guest nights spent was 1.3 million at tourist accommodations, of which 431,000 guests and 973,000 guest nights were registered at commercial accommodations. 78 percent of the latter were spent in hotels, where the number of guest nights was 19 percent higher than a year earlier. The number of domestic guest nights spent in private and other accommodations increased by 37 percent compared to March 2023.
Sopron, Gyula and Debrecen were the most popular destinations
The number of domestic guest nights increased everywhere, but the most in the area around Sopron-Fertő (69%) and Gyula (33%). The number of domestic guest nights spent in tourist accommodation increased by 26 percent at Lake Balaton and 13 percent in Budapest.
The number of foreign guests increased by 39 percent and the number of guest nights by 27 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The 546,000 guests who arrived at tourist accommodations spent 1.4 million guest nights, of which 389,000 guests and 1.0 million guest nights were registered at commercial accommodations. 84 percent of the latter were spent in hotels, where the number of guest nights was 21 percent higher than a year earlier. The number of nights spent by foreign guests in private and other accommodations increased by 47 percent compared to March 2023.
The number of foreign guest nights in Debrecen and its region, as well as in the Mátra-Bükk tourist region, increased by 61 percent, while in Gyula and its region it decreased by 18 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
