Those interested in exploring the world of laboratory work can visit the open day of the University of Debrecen’s Institute of Laboratory Medicine on November 5th. Participants can observe the work of laboratory staff, practice blood sampling techniques using a simulation arm, and even participate in blood typing. The Tuesday event is organized to mark European Laboratory Professionals Day.

Participants can follow the journey of blood samples from blood collection to the completion of the test results. Visitors can tour the laboratories and learn about various laboratory equipment, automation, and technologies.

“The program is interactive, allowing participants to try out and learn blood sampling techniques using a simulation arm, familiarize themselves with certain rapid tests performed at the bedside, and perform blood typing. For those who have questions about their own laboratory results, our specialists offer consultation to interpret the results,” said Zsuzsa Bagoly, associate professor at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Research, Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen, and the main organizer of the event.

Anyone interested in learning about the operation of diagnostic laboratories and the world of diagnostic development and research can register for the November 5th open day.

“The program provides an excellent opportunity for students and young people to get a glimpse into the operation of laboratories and consider this career option. We hope that the open day will help the public better understand the role of laboratories in healthcare and thus increase trust in the results of laboratory tests. The aim of the open day is also to highlight the importance of science, research, and innovative thinking in the field of medical laboratory diagnostics. The event provides an opportunity for anyone to get a closer look at the world of routine diagnostic laboratories and understand how the activities carried out here contribute to and play an important role in patient care and healthcare decision-making,” added Zsuzsa Bagoly.

The event is organized on the occasion of European Laboratory Professionals Day, which highlights the importance of laboratory diagnostics and its role in healthcare. European Laboratory Professionals Day was first announced in 2022 by the European Federation of Laboratory Medicine.

The open day will be held in the In Vitro Diagnostics Building on Tuesday, November 5th, starting at 4 pm. Participants are expected in three groups (4 pm, 4:30 pm, and 5 pm), with a capacity of fifteen people per group. Registration is possible through the following links:
