Producer Janet Yang has been re-elected as the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors. This marks Yang’s third term as president, a role in which she has been instrumental over the past two years.

Her re-election reflects the confidence and appreciation the Board has for her leadership and vision. In addition to Yang’s re-election, the Board of Governors has appointed several new officers: – Lesley Barber: Vice President (Chair, Membership Committee)

  • DeVon Franklin: Vice President (Chair, Equity and Inclusion Committee)
  • Donna Gigliotti: Vice President/Treasurer (Chair, Finance Committee)
  • Lynette Howell Taylor: Vice President (Chair, Awards Committee)
  • Howard A. Rodman: Vice President/Secretary (Chair, Governance Committee)

Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed his enthusiasm for Yang’s continued presidency and the new slate of officers. “I am thrilled to have Janet return as Academy President for a third term to continue our great work of the past two years,” Kramer said. “I also am so pleased to welcome this year’s incredible slate of dedicated board officers. I look forward to collaborating with our officers and governors to advance the Academy’s mission, serve our global membership, celebrate the work of our international filmmaking community, continue to ensure the financial health of the Academy, and broaden our reach and impact within the industry.” Yang’s leadership within the Academy has been marked by her extensive experience and achievements in film production.

A member of the Academy’s Producers Branch since 2002, her notable producing credits include “South Central,” “The Joy Luck Club,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Zero Effect,” “Savior,” “The Weight of Water,” “High Crimes,” and the Oscar-nominated animated feature “Over the Moon.”

Additionally, she won an Emmy for the HBO film “Indictment: The McMartin Trial.” Yang’s tenure as president aligns with her term as a Governor-at-Large, a position to which she was elected by the Board of Governors in 2019 and again in 2022.

This role further underscores her deep commitment and influence within the Academy. Among the newly elected officers, Franklin, Howell Taylor, and Rodman have been re-elected, while Gigliotti returns after previously serving as an officer.

Barber steps into an officer role for the first time. Academy board members can serve up to two three-year terms consecutively or non-consecutively, followed by a two-year hiatus, after which they are eligible for up to two additional three-year terms, for a lifetime maximum of 12 years.

Officers serve one-year terms with a maximum of four consecutive years in any single office. Yang’s re-election and the new officers’ appointments mark a continuation of the Academy’s commitment to excellence, inclusion, and global outreach in the film industry.
