German auto parts manufacturer Schaeffler is cutting 4,700 jobs in Europe.
The German Schaeffler AG, one of the world’s leading car parts manufacturers, which is also present in Hungary, has announced a downsizing as a result of the merger with the electric car parts manufacturer Vitesco Technologies, reports MTI. The company’s website states, among other things, that it plans to cut 4,700 jobs in Europe, including about 2,800 in Germany. The downsizing affects ten locations in Germany.
Schaeffler has 120,000 employees worldwide.
Layoffs will also take place at five European factories, including two that will be closed. The company indicated that they will announce exactly where and what they plan to do by the end of the year. Schaeffler has 120,000 employees worldwide. At the beginning of October, the Romanian press reported that Schaeffler would lay off 800 of the approximately 4,900 workers at its factory in Keresztényfalva (Cristian) in Brasov County. It is not mentioned in the news that the downsizing may also affect our country. Schaeffler AG operates its largest factory in Szombathely in Hungary. Schaeffler Savaria Kft., which is engaged in the production of road vehicle components. Opten Kft. employed more than 3,700 people. according to its database.
Schaeffler also operates a factory in Debrecen, which deals with the production of bearings and power transmission elements, with nearly 1,300 employees.
