The long period of foggy, gray weather may finally come to an end, as changes in the form of cyclones and fronts are expected to arrive this week. According to Időkép, snowfall is possible in a significant part of the country, and we may even see the first snowflakes of this winter on the plains.
The first wave of precipitation is expected to arrive on Wednesday, bringing rain to most of the country due to the undulating cold front. However, in some parts of Transdanubia, where the cold air mass meets the precipitation, sleet or even snow can be expected. While snow is unlikely to remain on lower elevations, the mountain peaks may once again be covered in white.
The second half of the week brings a more exciting scenario. A Mediterranean cyclone is expected to reach the country by Friday morning, and there is a good chance that it will bring snow to the plains as well. However, the cyclone’s path is still uncertain, which will determine the amount and distribution of the snowfall.
