Two buses collided head-on in Debrecen

Nineteen people were injured on Friday morning in Debrecen when two buses collided on Jedlik Ányos Street – the spokesperson of the Hajdú-Bihar County Disaster Management Directorate told MTI.


Fire lieutenant Nóra Papp-Kunkli informed us that the Debrecen professional firefighters had been called to the scene of the accident. Both drivers were trapped in the wreckage, one of them was freed by hand and the other by the firefighters using hydraulic cutters.

According to information from the local transport company received by MTI, a local bus collided with a long-distance Volán bus. There were no passengers on the local bus, but the driver was seriously injured. The other injured were passengers on the long-distance bus – they indicated.

Pál Győrfi, the spokesperson of the National Ambulance Service, informed MTI that nine ambulances and one rescue helicopter arrived at the scene.

The paramedics transported one man with serious injuries and seventeen people with minor injuries to hospitals in Debrecen and Berettyóújfalu. The seriously injured person suffered a broken leg and a head injury, while the minor injuries were bruises.
