From August 24, the MÁV Group has introduced several new bus services between Debrecen and surrounding towns, while a number of existing services have been adjusted to reflect changes to the BMW plant’s shift schedule.
The changes will improve access to Debrecen’s North-Western Economic Zone from Mátészalka, Nyíregyháza, Hajdúnánás, Álmosd, Szerep and several other towns, benefiting more than 300,000 residents of the surrounding settlements as well as BMW employees.
In response to changes in the shift schedule at the BMW plant in Debrecen, new services have been introduced from August 24, while several existing buses will run more frequently or at times better aligned with shift changes. As a result, the BMW plant and the North-Western Economic Zone will be more easily accessible from several surrounding towns, while employees finishing their shifts will also have more options for getting home.
New services to the BMW plant from several areas
On the Nyíregyháza–Újfehértó–Téglás–Debrecen route, some early-morning and afternoon services that previously operated only on working days will also run on days off. In addition, new services will operate from Debrecen’s North-Western Economic Zone to Nyíregyháza and Téglás, while evening services will run from Nyíregyháza and Téglás to Debrecen.
The connection between Mátészalka–Nyírbátor–Nyírbogát–Nyíradony and the Debrecen, BMW Plant stop will also be expanded, with new bus services operating on both working days and days off.
On the Álmosd–Hosszúpályi–Mikepércs–Debrecen, BMW Plant route, some morning and afternoon services will also operate on days off. In addition, new services will run between Debrecen and Álmosd at times aligned with shift changes.
A similar development will take place on the Szerep–Sárrétudvari–Berettyóújfalu–Debrecen, BMW Plant route. Some services previously operating only on working days will also run on days off, while new morning and evening services will facilitate commuting to work and travelling home after shifts.
Service will also be expanded on the Hajdúnánás–Hajdúböszörmény–Debrecen, BMW Plant route. Early-morning and afternoon services will also operate on days off, while new services timed to the shift schedule will run between Debrecen and Hajdúnánás.
The services are not limited to BMW employees and can be used by anyone with a valid travel entitlement. The buses do not make stops within Debrecen, but for the more than 300,000 residents of the settlements along the routes, the changes represent an expansion of services, with two additional services per direction each day from Monday to Saturday.
The timetable changes are designed to provide BMW employees travelling from surrounding settlements with more predictable bus connections that better match the start and end of their shifts.
