Happy National Pollinator Day!

Culture

March 10 has been designated National Pollinator Day in Hungary since 2018 in order to raise public awareness of the invaluable ecological role of pollinators as well as dramatic decline of insect populations all around the world. We have lost an alarming number of bees in the past couple of years and have already been impacted heavily by such mass extinction. One third of our food products comes from flowering plants that naturally rely on pollinators but, in some places, artificial measures are needed as a substitute for the busy work done by bees other insects such as butterflies, flies and beetles.

Activities on National Pollinator Day aim to encourage you all to think globally and, at the same time, act locally; we are home to over 650 plant species and have set up several bee hotels on the premises in order to help pollinators do their job. An additional perk is that, besides being beneficial for insects, our colorful and fragrant flowers are also rather pleasant to look at – so come visit us and indulge your senses.
