Andy Fletcher, Keyboardist for Depeche Mode, Has Died

He was 60 years old.

 

Fletcher was born in 1961 in Nottingham, England, but moved to Basildon as a child. There, he met Vince Clarke, a future founding member of Depeche Mode. He formed a band with Clarke called No Romance In China in the late 1970s, and after meeting Martin Gore, they formed another trio called Composition Of Sound. In 1980, Dave Gahan joined the group and changed their name to Depeche Mode.

Although Clarke left the band after the release of his debut album Speak And Spell in 1981, Fletcher remained an active member and played keyboards throughout their careers. In addition to Martin and Gore, he released 17 albums with Depeche Mode, the most recent of which was the 2017 Spirit. In 2020, he entered the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. The latest news about him was that he broke his wrist in April while on holiday in Barcelona.
