Debrecen will host this year’s Sándor Weöres National Children’s Theater Festival from 9 to 11 June, the organizers announced at a press conference at the local Vojtina puppet theater on Thursday.
The venue of the national children’s play festival takes place every two years in Debrecen, but in 2020 the meeting was missed due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Terka Láposi, a representative of the Hungarian Drama Pedagogical Society, said that their company has been organizing the meeting every year since 1992, which has been hosted every two years since 2003 in Debrecen.
In the county and regional competitions that preceded the festival, 184 children’s groups presented their productions, and a jury of renowned professionals awarded fifty ensembles a gold rating.
Terka Láposi also informed that in connection with the children’s theater festival, a professional conference entitled Narrated Lives will be held on June 9 for drama teachers, theater educators, puppet group leaders, children’s and student actors, university students, and teachers in art schools.
The performances of the Sándor Weöres Children’s Play Festival can be seen at the Vojtina Puppet Theater, the stage of the Csokonai Literary Laboratory, the Kölcsey Center, and the open-air stage in the Big Forest, the press conference said.
