Legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood has died at the age of 81.

According to a statement, she died “peacefully, surrounded by family”, as they wrote, “until the last moment she did what she loved, planned, worked on her works”.

Westwood was born in a village in England in 1941, she and her family moved to London in 1957, where she attended art school for half a year. In addition, she never learned about fashion design in an institutional framework, initially she took second-hand clothes apart to understand their cut. In the sixties, she met Malcolm McLaren – who was the manager of the Sex Pistols – while she was working as a primary school teacher. In 1961, they opened a boutique together.

The Guardian article states: Westood’s provocative and sometimes divisive solutions defined the style of punk, and she became one of Britain’s most famous fashion designers. In 2006, the fashion designer received the rank of Dame, i.e. the female equivalent of the title of knight II. From Queen Elizabeth. Westwood also took a stand on many public issues, in 2020, for example, protesting in a giant birdcage against the extradition of Julian Assange.
