As part of the Festum Varadinum, the artists of the Csokonai Theater performed Rossini’s prayer of thanksgiving entitled “Little Holiday Mass” under the direction of János Ács in Nagyvárad.
“My God, Lord! Here is this little, poor mass. Did I compose holy music? Or did I create a sacrilegious work? You know very well, I was born for opera buffa”
– can be read on the author’s manuscript of Petite Messe Solennelle, and the interesting thing about this piece is that more than 34 years separate it from Rossini’s last opera. The composition was performed by the young artists of the opera department of the Csokonai Theatre: Ágnes Rendes, Annamária Donkó, Emőke Balog, Krisztina Törő, Sára Repka, Zsanett Herczegfalvi, Csaba Grega, András Piskóti, József Balog, Norbert Antóni, Péter Udvarhelyi, György Andrássy. Soloists were sung by: Kíra Nagy, Zsófia Janovicz, Gábor Kovács, Imre Donkó.
Festum Varadinum, together with the pre-and post-events, lasts almost a month in Nagyvárád and offers more than 200 programs. Debrecen joined the event with 14 programs, the Csokonai Theater announced.
