Mayor László Papp delivered a lecture to young members of the Morus Leadership Academy on Tuesday evening, as reported by the local government.
The city leader announced that Debrecen aims to create two music centers. One of them has already been made public: a new concert center will be established at Dósa Nádor Square, featuring three halls, a rock museum, and a café.
To implement this, the local government issued a design competition in late July for properties at Dósa Nádor Square 2-3 and Liszt Ferenc Street 7.
The goal of the development is to create an “integrated cultural center that includes performance and concert halls (indoor and covered courtyard), catering and accommodation facilities, as well as the supporting spaces.” Debrecen has a long-standing tradition of this unique cultural space. This phenomenon has seen significant development in recent times, as visitors demand a continuously evolving service structure. The interior design and attraction development of this cultural center, along with the creation of multi-venue concert and entertainment units, are particularly significant. The aim is for the development to operate as one of the city’s most modern entertainment and cultural centers.
The main elements of the development would include:
– A new concert hall with interior installations and supporting spaces
– Modernization and expansion of the existing catering area, with primary and secondary functions established in the affected buildings
– Creation of a covered courtyard with a standalone stage as an extension of the consumer area
– Establishment of a pedestrian connection between the two public spaces
– Development of accommodation facilities.
Regarding the second plan, László Papp revealed only that they wish to establish another large cultural music center at a different location in the city center.
