Consumer price levels for alcoholic beverages in Hungary stood 23% under the European Union average last year, data compiled by Eurostat show.
The relative price of alcoholic beverages was lower only in Bulgaria and Romania, where they were 26% under the EU average. Prices for alcoholic beverages were 18% under the EU average in the Czech Republic and 14% under the average in Poland. In Slovakia, prices were 10% under the average.
Hungary raised the public health tax on alcoholic beverages from the start of 2019, causing the prices of such products to climb well over headline inflation.
