A government probe of the construction materials market shows a correction in prices, state secretary for consumer protection Péter Cseresnyés said.
“An analysis of price developments shows that the marked rise in prices in the first half clearly stopped in July. In some instances, prices were successfully rolled back to levels at the start of the year, and prices for an even broader range of products returned to levels in April,” Cseresnyés said. The government obliged building materials traders to declare their exports in the summer amid concerns runaway prices could counter the benefits of a home renovation subsidy scheme. The reporting requirement is in force until January 2022. The building materials market probe, which was launched three months ago, is ongoing.
