In June, consumer prices were on average 11.7 percent higher than a year earlier. In the past year, the prices of food and durable consumer goods have risen the most, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
Consumer prices increased by an average of 1.5 percent in one month.
The annual core inflation was 13.8 percent.
Compared to May, the annual inflation index rose by 1.0 percentage points, and core inflation by 1.6 percentage points.
Food prices rose by 22.1 percent compared to last June, and by 2.9 percent compared to May. Within this, margarine rose in price by 12.7 percent in one month and by 58.1 percent in one year. The price of cheese increased by 43.4% in one year, compared to May by 5.9%. Since last June, dry pasta has risen in price by 39.9 percent, bread by 39.7 percent, poultry meat by 37.1 percent, dairy products by 36.5 percent, eggs by 34.3 percent, pastries by 31.1 percent, and milk by 24.9 percent. Beef became more expensive by 41.0 percent in one year and by 5.3 percent since May. The price of fresh vegetables rose by 16.9 percent, that of fruit by 17.4 percent, while potatoes were only 3.1 percent more expensive than last June. The price of pork rose below average by 11.3 percent, chocolate and cocoa went up by 6.5 percent, and sugar by 5.7 percent.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products cost an average of 7.3, of which alcoholic beverages were 9.5 percent more expensive and tobacco products were 5.9 percent more expensive than last year.
You had to pay 12.4 percent more for durable consumer goods, 20.1 percent more for kitchen and other furniture, 19.7 percent more for bedroom furniture, 17.6 percent more for used cars, and 12.0 percent more for new cars.
Other articles and fuels rose in price by an average of 11.6 percent, the price of fuels last month was 11.2 percent higher than a year ago.
The price of services rose by 5.6 percent, including taxis by 26.1 percent and holiday services by 10.5 percent.
Within the average monthly increase of 1.5 percent in consumer prices, food prices rose by 2.9 percent, including margarine by 12.7, rice by 6.6, cheese by 5.9, dairy products by 5.1, poultry by 4.7 , pastries by 4.0, dry pasta by 3.7, milk by 3.6, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 3.3, eating out by 3.1, bread by 2.0 percent, the price of seasonal food by 1.0 decreased by percent.
The price of durable consumer goods increased by 1.4 percent, including kitchen and other furniture by 2.9 percent, bedroom furniture by 2.4 percent, and used cars by 2.2 percent. The price of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and services both increased by 0.8 percent, within the latter, holiday services cost 8.8 percent, taxis 3.7 percent, and sports and museum tickets 3.0 percent more.
In the first half of the year, consumer prices rose by an average of 9.4 percent for all households, and by 9.2 percent for retired households, the KSH announced.
