In August 2023, the gross average salary of those employed full-time was HUF 555,900 (approx. 1502.82 EUR), and the average net salary, calculated with allowances taken into account, was HUF 383,500 (approx. 1036.75 EUR). The gross average salary increased by 15.2 percent and the net average salary by 15.1 percent, while the real salary decreased by 1.0 percent compared to a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.
The average gross salary of full-time employees was HUF 555,900, 15.2 percent higher than a year earlier.
In August, the regular gross average earnings (without premiums, bonuses, one-month special allowances) can be estimated at HUF 528,500, 14.1 percent higher than a year earlier. The regular gross average earnings in enterprises amounted to HUF 531,100, in the budget sector to HUF 518,300, and in the non-profit sector to HUF 531,600, rising by 14.0, 15.1, and 12.1 percent, respectively, in one year.
According to the KSH report, the average net salary without discounts reached HUF 369,700 and HUF 383,500 with discounts, which was 15.2 and 15.1 percent higher than in August 2022, respectively.
Real earnings decreased by 1.0 percent, in addition to the 16.4 percent increase in consumer prices compared to the same period of the previous year.
The gross median earnings were HUF 450,000, 15.6 percent higher than a year earlier. The median value of net earnings, calculated taking discounts into account, reached HUF 312,300, 15.7 percent higher than the same period of the previous year.
In January-August, the gross average salary of full-time employees was HUF 556,900. The net average earnings without discounts reached HUF 370,400, and HUF 384,000 with discounts.
The gross, net average earnings calculated without discounts, as well as the net earnings calculated taking into account the discounts, both increased by 14.0 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The change in average earnings was influenced by the service allowance, equivalent to six months’ salary, paid to national defense and law enforcement professional staff in February 2022, the so-called weapon allowance. Filtering out the effect of this, the growth of the gross average earnings and the net average earnings calculated taking discounts into account would both be 2.0 percentage points higher, the KSH added.
In January-August, the gross average salary of full-time employees at enterprises employing at least 5 people, budget institutions and non-profit organizations significant for employment was HUF 574,500. The net average earnings without discounts reached HUF 382,000, and HUF 395,600 with discounts.
The gross and average net earnings calculated without discounts both increased by 14.1 percent, and the net earnings calculated with discounts by 14.0 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The change in average earnings was influenced by the service allowance, equivalent to six months’ salary, paid to national defense and law enforcement professional staff in February 2022, the so-called weapon allowance. Filtering out the effect of this, the growth of the gross average earnings and the net average earnings calculated taking discounts into account would both be 2.1 percentage points higher.
