86 percent of those surveyed have some form of insurance, and more and more people take out credit coverage insurance for unexpected life situations – revealed the latest, representative research by MBH Bank, which examined the insurance habits of the Hungarian population.


According to the summary sent to MTI on Tuesday, for 71 percent of customers, the insurance premium is the primary consideration, but the proportion of those who choose insurance based on the services included in the contract (36 percent) or reliability (31 percent) is increasingly significant.

According to the results of the research, 82 percent of the respondents took out home insurance. This is followed by compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance with 68 percent, then accident and life insurance with 48 percent each. Within the latter, pension insurance is also emphasized, which shows that self-care for retirement years is also playing an increasingly important role, the MBH indicated.

A typical problem with home insurance is that 45 percent of those with insurance do not update the value of the property every year, so the property may become underinsured.

Half of the respondents took out travel insurance, typically for trips to the beach, mainly for health risks.

40-45 percent of those surveyed are familiar with credit insurance, which, according to the MBH, is extremely important, because the longer the term of a given loan, the more likely it is that an unexpected event – illness, accident or even long-term unemployment – will occur during repayment.

More than half of the respondents are aware that insurance can be taken out through their bank. Only 26 percent marked the possibility of online administration as important.

As the proportion of internet purchases and the value of items purchased online increases, so does the need for safe shopping in online marketplaces. This need is served by the insurance against fraud committed in the Internet space, which 72 percent of the respondents have not yet heard of, even though it is an extremely useful tool to prevent abuse, the MBH pointed out.
