Background
EFSA is organising a web meeting with stakeholders to present its draft opinions on dietary reference values (DRVs) for sodium and chloride. DRVs guide professionals on the amount of a nutrient needed to maintain health in otherwise healthy people. They are used to issue dietary recommendations to consumers. The draft opinions were released for public consultation at the beginning of April 2019.
Objectives of the meeting
The aim of the meeting is to provide clarifications to stakeholders on the conclusions reached by the EFSA’s Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) regarding DRVs for sodium and chloride. It will also be used to collect comments from participants as part of the public consultation, which will then be considered by the panel in finalising its opinions.
Structure of the meeting
EFSA experts and staff will present highlights from the draft opinions, address questions from participants, and invite comments for discussion.
Who should attend?
The meeting is intended for representatives of governmental organisations, professional associations, non-governmental organisations, academia, food business operators, and industry associations with interest and expertise in nutrition and public health.
To ensure a productive and manageable exchange of views, the number of external participants will be limited to 35. Registrations will be closed once the number has been reached and priority will be given to participants who registered for the physical meeting that was due to take place on 7 May. Register here.
Accepted participants will be sent a link and instructions on how to join the web meeting.
