The Court of Justice of the European Union takes steps to ensure continuity in the handling of cases and to help to fight the spread of the epidemic
To date, no one working in the institution has been identified as having been infected with the Covid-19 virus. Nevertheless, in view of the way in which the epidemic has evolved since its emergence, the Court has decided to adapt its working arrangements in order to deal with an unprecedented situation.
The action taken by the Court is guided by the overriding need to protect the health of its staff while contributing to the public authorities’ fight against the spread of the virus, and by the aim of maintaining continuity in its judicial activity.
On the basis of an overall analysis of all these factors, the institution has decided that the use of its premises will now be reserved for those activities that necessarily have to be carried out there, such as oral hearings. The other activities will be performed remotely, including with the use of appropriate technology.
With these adjusted arrangements in place, judicial activity can proceed provided the health situation allows, and subject to any further developments
