Visegrad is a symbol of democratic international cooperation between equal partners which Hungary has held important over many centuries, an official of the Human Resources Ministry said, greeting a bureau meeting of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.
Eszter Vitályos, the state secretary in charge of European Union development policy, said Visegrád Group cooperation was a mark of joining forces and sharing a common past. The members are linked not only by a common past and the River Danube but also by the nationalities that live in the area, she added. The role of local authorities in the green economy will get special attention at the two-day meeting starting on Monday and Hungary is one of the main advocates of developing a green economy, she said.
President of the Chamber of Local Authorities Bernd Vöhringer said that relations with the Hungarian delegation were excellent and the fact that the meeting was held in Visegrad was a strong sign from the Hungarian presidency. Hungary holds the presidency of the CoE Council of Ministers between May 21 and Nov. 17.
