Statement by EIB President Werner Hoyer on the invasion of Ukraine
“I would like to express our horror at the loss of life and suffering caused by Russia’s military aggression towards Ukraine, an act which we utterly deplore. The EU Bank – the whole EIB Group – stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and our commitment to supporting an independent Ukraine and improving the lives of its people remains steadfast. We stand ready to urgently mobilise further financial support to the country as part of a coordinated EU and international response to this unprecedented crisis.”
The EIB has worked with Ukraine since 2007.
The Bank operates in Ukraine in line with the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), the Eastern Partnership (EaP) and other EU bilateral agreements. We have a strong impact on the labour market, preserving existing jobs and creating new jobs.
