Two people were killed, five were seriously injured in a bus accident on a motorway in northern Belgium on Sunday, and the driver’s drug test was positive, the French-language Belgian daily La Libre Belgique reported on Sunday.
Sandra Eyschen, a spokeswoman for Belgian federal police, said the long-distance bus of a French freight distribution service called BlaBlaCar had suffered an accident on the E19 motorway connecting Antwerp in northern Belgium to Breda in the Netherlands.
A vehicle with a French license plate traveling from Amsterdam to Paris deviated from the motorway for an unknown reason, then turned to its side and its windows broke. The track section was completely closed.
The overturned bus near Antwerp carried 30 passengers, mostly of French and Spanish nationality.
According to the Antwerp prosecutor’s office, the driver’s drug test was positive. The 35-year-old French bus driver has been arrested, he added.
