Cold and flu infections usually get better in a couple of weeks, but in order to recover faster, you can have some healthy drinks and meals.
Some people lose their appetite when fighting the flu, but eating nutritious food is a must when you are ill, and drinking plenty of fluids is one of the most important things you can do when you have a cold or flu.
Drinking water is one of the best options when you have a cold or flu, but hot drinks are also a good choice.
You can have some juice, ginger ale, herbal tea, honey and lemon tea, broth or ginger tea.
However, when you have the flu or cold, you have to avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, as they are dehydrating.
As for the meals, you do not need to follow a special diet or eat particular foods when you have cold and flu, but you should have plenty of nutritious foods, including fruits and vegetables. You can also have some foods which boost the immune system, and eat soft foods which are easier to swallow with a sore throat.
Foods which can boost the immune system include yoghurt, kefir, salmon and tuna, walnuts, olive and walnut oil.
Vitamin C can also help you to get better faster. Foods with vitamin C are oranges and grapefruits, peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, pineapples, broccoli or guava.
