The bust of master chef László Boros will be erected in front of the Commercial and Hospitality Technical College. The chef, who died in November 2020, received the Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit award for his work during his lifetime, reads the summary of the Debrecen General Assembly.
At the initiative of the Hajdúság Gastronomy Club, admirers of master chef László Boros want to commemorate the chef who died two years ago, and for his work, he received the Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Hungarian National Gastronomy Association. The presenters also remembered that László Boros Jogy crossed the threshold of the Aranybika kitchen as a young student in 1965. In 1973, he joined the Szabadság Restaurant, where he became head chef at just 23. He later gained experience abroad. For his work, he received the Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Hungarian National Gastronomy Association.
The people behind the civil initiative also undertook its implementation and entrusted the sculptor Richárd Juha with the creation of the bronze bust. The cost of the portrait is financed by donations from the club. The bust would be placed in the public space in front of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center Commercial and Hospitality Technical School and Vocational Training School at 2 Vénkert Street, one of the important locations of the master chef’s oeuvre.
The inauguration of the statue is planned for April 21, 2023, by the club and the technical school. At that time, professional-community cooking would also be held in the schoolyard. At the same time, a commemorative exhibition of the master chef’s oeuvre will open in the technical school. After placing the statue, the club will hand over the statue to the municipality free of charge.
