Measles outbreak in Ukraine: 5-year-old child died due to measles disease

A 5-year-old child died due to the measles disease in Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky district of Odesa region. Vyacheslav Polyasny, the Head of Healthcare Department of Odesa region claimed this as Oblvesti reported.

‘One fatal case is recorded in 2018. A 5-year-old child died in Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky district. It is due to the late visit to a doctor’, Polyasny noted.

54 people, including 43 children sickened of measles since the beginning of 2018. Moreover, more than 20 children have sickened of measles after the visit of one of the circuses in Kyiv.

Measles is a highly contagious infection. Initial signs and symptoms typically include fever, often greater than 40° C, cough, running nose, and inflamed eyes. Complications occur in about 30% of cases and may include diarrhoea, blindness, inflammation of the brain, and pneumonia.
