During the last 70 years, in Pennsylvania (USA), more than 300 Catholic priests have abused children. They have more than 1000 victims.This is stated in a report which was published by local State Attorney General Josh Shapiro on Tuesday (14th of August). The 18-month investigation revealed that the latest abuses were committed in 2010, while the oldest happened more than seventy years ago. Shapiro also said that the Church had systematically hid these cases, so nobody has known about them so far.
The report strongly criticized Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the archbishop of Washington, who had previously been the head of the Pittsburgh Church District in Pennsylvania. The victims have reported that the priests had used drugs on them, and among the victims there were some children who were younger than ten when they were sexually abused by the priests.
