The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant caught fire at dawn, the local mayor confirmed. The Russian army opened fire on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, fortunately only the plant’s training building caught fire.

 

The building burned for at least four hours after Russian troops prevented rescue teams from reaching the building. The Ukrainian ambulance service confirmed that the fire was extinguished at 6:20 a.m. local time. According to the mayor of Enerhodar, southeast of the power plant, fighting at the power plant has also ceased.

 

In the morning, Russian troops took control of the attacked nuclear power plant, Ukrainian authorities said.

 

No country other than Russia has fired on nuclear power plants yet. This is the first time in human history, ”Ukrainian President Zelensky commented on the events.
