Elon Musk the founder of automotive company Tesla and space company X, has overtaken Amazon founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos on the list of Forbes ’richest people in the world.

Musk had net assets of $ 219 billion as of March 11. This does not yet include Musk’s recently acquired 9.2 percent stake in Twitter.

Bezos had net assets of $ 171 billion, making it second on the list. Bezos has been the richest man in the world for the past four years.

The world’s 5 richest men also include France’s Bernard Arnault ($ 158 billion) and America’s Bill Gates ($ 129 billion) and Warren Buffett ($ 118 billion).

Data from the 36th compilation compiled by Forbes showed that the total net worth of listed billionaires fell to $ 12.7 trillion from $ 13.1 trillion in 2021. And the list itself has been shortened by 87 places to 2,668 people, making the 1,000 billionaire even richer than a year ago.

The wealth of Russian billionaires has fallen by more than $ 260 billion. This year’s list also includes 34 fewer Russian citizens in connection with Western sanctions imposed on the Russian war against Ukraine, which has affected “stone-rich” Russians quite sensitively.

The number of Chinese billionaires has also dropped by 87 on this year’s list.

236 new billionaires have been added to the list, for the first time from Barbados, Bulgaria, Estonia and Uruguay.

Of the 2,668 billionaires, 327 were women, according to Forbes last year, 328. The richest woman from L’Oréal was Francoise Bettencourt, with a wealth of $ 74.8 billion.

Forbes estimates that most female billionaires are in the United States, at 90, in China at 63, and in Germany at 35.
