More than a hundred volunteers cleaned the Great Forest on 27th of October. University and college students joined together to clean up the trails. Their goal is to cleanse the forest.
The park`s rangers regularly patrolling the area but it is very hard to
catch those who illegaly left trash inside the forests. Plastic bottles and tin boxes, milk bags and tubing everywhere. The paths of the Great Forest are full with garbage, so uni and college students have a lot to do.
– More than a hundred people taking part in the cleaning. We are very
happy because it seems that young people not just talk but they want to
do for the cleanliness of their environment. – said Adam Lenner, Head of the Environment Committee of the Student Council of the University of Debrecen.
The Hortobagy National Park`s officers pressed the local government couple of years ago to close several roads in the forest from traffic.
Thanks to this nowdays less litter poisoning the Great Forest however illegal littering still cause a lots of trouble.
The national park staff would patrol the area on a weekly basis. The organizers of yesterday’s high-cleaning hoped that others will follow their example, and then the forest will not be a garbage area.
