Four years ago, a block of flats burned out in Fenyesudvar area of Debrecen. The rescue efforts was hindered by the
irregular stored items and trash in the hall and corridors.
Since then the firefighters regularly monitor the ventilation ducts, corridors, staircases and refuse containers. The negligence can cost a serious price if recurring irregularities are found. The fine can go up to 3 million Huf.
Four years ago a ten-storey building burned out within minutes in February 2007. The flames formed inside a fourth-floor apartment but the fire reached up to the highest level through the hall and in the ventilation system within a short time. The rescue was hampered by the fact that the owners improperly stored common everyday objects and garbage in common areas and hallways.
The accumulated paper, wood, textile and waste inside the wastebins and electrical cabinets can easily ignite and the smoke will load up the whole staircase within short time.
Imre Nagy commander of the firefighters tells his colleagues to go through every floor of the buildings of Debrecen every year. They almost everywhere found error.
If they found errors they issue a warning but at the next check they can fine the owner even up to 3 million Huf.
