Even graduates may have to work as public workers in Debrecen.
Tamás Pethe, head of the Debrecen Human Services Nonprofit Kft. said that from January this year the registered unmeployed – regardless of their level of education – are obliged to accept any job offer made by the regional employment center.
Tamás Pethe said that in May they sent out 400 recruitment forms and in June they intend to employ 170 people as public workers. 10 % of these notices were delivered to graduates. The director related that there was an incident with a young graduate who threatened suicide in case he would be forced to work as a sweeper. He said that typically half of the graduates plead unfitness because of health problems in trying to avoid a job which they think humiliating.
