“With the construction of the large hadron collider, a new chapter began in the history of research.”- said Rolf-Dieter Heuer director-general of the European Organisation of Nuclear Research (CERN) at the inauguration ceremony for honorary doctors held in the Main Building a few days ago.
The professor was awarded the honorary doctor title last November. According to him, the international group of researchers including Hungarian physicists has made lots of discoveries in the field of particle physics since the large hadron collider was built on the French-Swiss border. He announced these first achievements to the teachers and students of the University of Debrecen in his speech. Professionals from Debrecen also contributed to the construction of the large hadron collider since an important element of the device was designed and built here.
