2200 people in Debrecen will receive European Union food in the coming weeks. The first wave of distribution took place on Wednesday.
Needy people were waiting in long lines in the day shelter of the Ecumenical Aid Organization. The packages, 8-10 kg each, contained pasta, flour, biscuits and vitamins, too. Attila Gyöngyösi said he was glad about the donations because he and his companions will be able to satisfy their needs for several days.
The Ecumenical Aid Organization records about 1500 people for whom such donations are vital. “Thank God, I’m able to rent a flat but I spend all my money for paying its costs so it really helps a lot that I don’t have to buy these things.” – said Mrs. Rost. The organization will continue distributing food in Hajdú-Bihar County. They will distribute 120 tons of food in 15 settlements.
