Helicopter hunt for ragweed

Local News

A growing number of technical equipments are available for the authorities in the fight against ragweed.

During the last few years they have used the satellite images made by theInstitute of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing (FÖMI). Through spectral analysis, they are able to detect the weeds. This year’s innovation is that they are scanning 10 settlements in Hajdú-Bihar County from helicopters. It’s a much faster way since areas covered with ragweed can be spotted from a distance of one km from a helicopter. Depending on the size of the area and the level of the pollution, a fine may amount from 15 thousand HUF to 5 million HUF.
