Two seed producing companies and 3 traders are affected in the scandal lashed out by genetically modified corn seeds. The authorized department of the ministry of Rural Development has been investigating their case.
Minister of Rural Development, Sándor Fazekas neither confirmed, nor confuted the information that the authorities would use intelligence tools. The suspects are facing the charge of wilful contamination of the Hungarian vegetable substance.
The supposedly genetically modified seeds are from Romanian and Croatian import. So far, 950 hectares of GM corn fields have been exterminated in Békés, Hajdú-Bihar, Tolna and Baranya county and according to the minister’s words, in few days, on 2500 hectares’ land the same will happen. The dealers reject the charges.
