One out of nine Debrecen citizens violated the Criminal Code.
Debrecen leads the latest, 2010 crime list of the Hungarian cities with county rights. More criminal prosecutions were initiated in Debrecen alone, than in Miskolc, Nyíregyháza and Szolnok together. Last year, 22 thousand cases of crime and offence were registered in Debrecen which means that 1 out of 9 citizens violated the law in some way or another.
Surprisingly, the most blood was shed in Pécs, the European Capital of Culture last year. The police closed the files of 5 homicide cases and 5 cases of attempted murder. In comparison with another university town, Szeged, the public safety in Pécs was critical.
