Prevention is better than treatment.
The workers of a foundation called Egy Csepp Figyelem provided free health screening in front of Forum on 12 August. 350 people seized the opportunity and had their blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol level measured. 4 of them didn’t know that they had abnormal blood sugar levels.
This free program of the foundation has many stations in Hungary and aims to draw attention to diabetes. Recent surveys show that 1.5 million people in Hungary suffer from it; 750 thousand of them are unaware of this. The medical personnel of the foundation also measure body fat percentage, weight, height and they can calculate the chance of developing high cholesterol levels, hypertension or diabetes.
The tour is a race at the same time: by this autumn, the “healthiest city” in Hungary will have been found. Last year, the award went to Szeged.
