40 years, 40 bands – Debrecen Jazz Festival

The fist jazz night of Debrecen, which meant the opening event of Debrecen Jazz Days, was held 40 years ago. This year, on the apropos of the anniversary, 186 jazz musicians are playing at 5 places during the 4 days of the festival. The guest artists are from 11 countries.

According to the traditions, world-famous artists are coming, as well as actors of jazz life from the neighbouring countries. Visitors can also listen to all generations of Hungarian jazz players, even the representatives of the newest genres.
In the colorful variety of styles, all fans of jazz can find their favourites.
This year’s festival is happening at all places of Kölcsey Center: concerts are held in the Grand Hall, the Ballroom, the Exhibition Hall and the foyer, as well as in the open stage of Baltazár Square and the garden of MODEM.
Most of the concerts are of free attendance, and for the highlighted ones guest can buy tickets on reduced prices.
Accompanying events include the painter László Gyémánt’s exhibition of jazz portraits, a photo exhibition on the 40 years of the Jazz Festival and the demonstration of the drum museum of Cegléd.
