A new tax called tax of public health was introduced on 1 September.
From this September, producers are obliged to pay the so called chips-tax on soft drinks, sweets and salty snacks. Customers, however, don’t have to pay more for these products until the stock is empty. Retailers don’t know the extent of the impending price increase.
The new tax may have an effect on the offer of school buffets. The soft drinks and sweets of higher prices are possible to disappear from their shelves. The sums of the tax of public health products are 5 HUF/liter on soft drinks, 250 HUF/liter on energy drinks, 100 HUF/kg on pre-packaged sweet cakes and 200 HUF on condiments.
