The members of the drug gang were sentenced to 2-8 years of imprisonment by the Debrecen Court of Appeal on Tuesday.
The Court of Appeal reduced the punishment previously imposed by the Hajdú-Bihar County Court. Chief Judge Sándor Kardos explained: “Every criminal act is committed at a specific time and place which must be identified. The first instance court failed to do so.”
The Court of Appeal sentenced first-order defendant István Való to 8 years, second-order defendant Bertalan Seykovszky to 6 years, third-oder defendant Zoltán Borsy to 5 years, fourth-order defendant Bálint József Becz to 4 years and fifth-order defendant Béla Boronkay to 2 years imprisonment.
The members of the gang were put on trial after the authorities found 50 kg of marihuana in the trunk of a truck on highway M1 in 2007. The offenders were transporting the drug from the Netherlands to Hungary.
