This year the Hortobágy sees more cranes than ever.
The shoaling of cranes is the most spectacular event of the Hortobágy ”Puszta” in Autumn: in the evenings thousands of cranes fly to shallow waters.
They have a rest on the area of the Hortobágy National Park while they are flying to their hatching places in Africa. Their number is increasing year by year, and according to some ornitologists, it is possible that in some years they won’t just stop for a rest here.
There has been such a day this week when 102 thousand cranes were counted on the waters of the Hortobágy, buti n the next few days even more are expected.
